Same idea, two names, two regions. PUBG Mobile Light is the global app. BGMI Lite is the India version. They aren’t competing games and you won’t choose between them, the one you get depends on where you’re. This guide explains the split, the different timelines, and which one applies to you.
The short answer
If you’re outside India, you get PUBG Mobile Light, whose pre-registration opened on August 25, 2026 and is open now. If you’re in India, you get BGMI Lite, a separate game with its own Google Play listing whose pre-registration is also open, confirmed by Krafton India for launch by the end of 2026 with no exact day named.
PUBG Mobile Light vs BGMI Lite compared
| Feature | PUBG Mobile Light | BGMI Lite |
|---|---|---|
| Region | Global | India |
| Parent game | PUBG Mobile | Battlegrounds Mobile India |
| Announced | August 2026 | August 16, 2026 |
| Pre-registration | Opened August 25, 2026, open now | Open now on its own Google Play listing |
| Launch | 12 November 2026 on the App Store listing, checked 2 September 2026 | By end of 2026, no day named |
| Download size | ~1 GB Android, 2.50 GB iOS measured 2 September 2026 | Not confirmed, Google Play publishes no size before launch |
| Publisher | Level Infinite on Google Play, Tencent Mobile International Limited on the App Store | KRAFTON, Inc. |
| Stores | Google Play and App Store, live in 46 of the 53 countries we checked | Google Play only, no iOS listing |
| Available in India | No, the India App Store returns no listing | Yes, this is the India build |
| Concept | Lighter client for the real game | Same lightweight approach |
We checked 53 App Store countries. India isn’t one of them.
The regional split on this page is usually explained. We went and measured it instead. On 2 September 2026 we queried the App Store product page for PUBG Mobile Light across 53 country storefronts, one at a time.
- 46 storefronts return the listing. Every one shows the same release date, 12 November 2026 at 08:00 UTC, the same seller, Tencent Mobile International Limited, the same version 4.6.0 and the same 2.50 GB download.
- 7 return nothing at all. India, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, China and Russia.
India returning nothing is this entire page in one data point. PUBG Mobile Light isn’t delayed for India, or region locked for India, or coming to India later. It isn’t published there. The app that 46 other countries can see on 12 November has no India edition at any point on its listing.
The other six are worth a look, because they make the pattern legible. Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, China, Vietnam and Russia are all markets where the PUBG franchise ships under separate local publishing rather than through the global Tencent label, or doesn’t ship at all. India sits in exactly that bucket, with Battlegrounds Mobile India as its local title. That reading is ours, drawn from the 404 list, not something Krafton or Tencent has stated. But it means India isn’t an oversight on that list. It’s a category.
Practically: if you’re in India, don’t wait for PUBG Mobile Light to appear. It won’t. BGMI Lite is the version built for you, and it’s already live for pre-registration on Google Play.
The platform split: two stores versus one
Region is only half of the difference. The two games also differ in how many app stores they exist on, and that catches out one specific group of players.
PUBG Mobile Light is on both stores. Google Play and the App Store, across the 46 countries where it’s published. An Android or an iPhone player in those markets can register today.
BGMI Lite is on one. We queried the India App Store for the BGMI Lite bundle id com.krafton.bgmilite on 2 September 2026 and it returns no result. There’s no iPhone or iPad page. BGMI Lite is Android only today, on Google Play, and Krafton India hasn’t said whether an iOS build is planned.
Put both findings together and one group falls into the gap between them. An Indian player on an iPhone currently has nothing to pre-register on either store. The India App Store carries no PUBG Mobile Light listing, and no BGMI Lite listing either. Not a worse option, not a later date. No listing at all.
That isn’t an Apple limitation. The full BGMI game has been on the India App Store since 17 August 2021, seller KRAFTON Inc, currently on version 4.5.0. The route is open and Krafton uses it. It has just not opened a page for the Lite build. If you’re on an iPhone in India, an App Store page appearing is the thing to watch for.
Why does India get a different version?
India runs the game as Battlegrounds Mobile India, a separate, India-specific title with its own servers, publishing and compliance requirements. Because the parent game carries the BGMI name in India, the lighter build does too. It’s a branding and regional split, not a different game engine or a downgrade.
Is BGMI Lite just PUBG Mobile Light renamed?
Think of them as regional twins rather than one being a copy of the other. Both follow the same brief: cut the install size and device load, keep the core battle royale intact. Krafton India hasn’t published BGMI Lite’s size, specs or feature list yet, so treat the global numbers as the best available guide, not confirmed India specs.
The August 25 mix-up
This is the single most common confusion right now, so it’s worth being blunt: August 25, 2026 was the day global PUBG Mobile Light pre-registration opened. It was never a BGMI Lite date. BGMI Lite is a separate game with its own Google Play listing, and its pre-registration is open too, so Indian players should register on the BGMI Lite listing rather than the global one. Registering for one doesn’t cover the other.
Which one will you actually get?
- India: pre-register for BGMI Lite on its own Google Play listing, then follow official BGMI channels for the date.
- Everywhere else: pre-register for PUBG Mobile Light, open since August 25, 2026.
Don’t try to force the wrong one. Sideloading a regional build or using workarounds to install a version not meant for your region risks your account, and no unofficial file is the real game before launch anyway.
Will progress carry between them?
PUBG Mobile and BGMI have always been separate ecosystems with separate accounts and progress, so expect the same separation between Light and BGMI Lite. Krafton has confirmed that PUBG Mobile Light uses your existing PUBG Mobile account with items carrying over. It hasn’t announced any cross-region transfer between BGMI and the global game, and historically that hasn’t existed.
The bottom line
Same concept, two regions, two timelines. Global players are first: pre-registration opened on August 25, 2026, and November 2026 is the launch window reported across coverage of the Krafton announcement, though an exact day hasn’t been named. India follows with BGMI Lite, whose pre-registration is already open, launching by the end of 2026. Everything else, size, specs, rewards, is still to be confirmed for the India build.

Which one arrives first?
Global players are ahead. PUBG Mobile Light pre-registration opened on August 25, 2026, with November 2026 reported as its launch window and no exact day named. BGMI Lite pre-registration is open too, but Krafton India has committed only to a launch by the end of 2026, again with no exact day.
That gap is normal for India. Battlegrounds Mobile India has always run on its own release schedule, with separate builds, servers and approvals, so India tends to follow the global game rather than launch alongside it.
Will BGMI Lite have the same features?
Krafton India hasn’t published BGMI Lite’s feature list, so nothing here’s confirmed for India. What we can say is what the global build promises: a roughly 1 GB install on Android, no mandatory extra package before your first match, modular content you choose to download, the classic Erangel map, and your existing account and items carrying over.
Since BGMI Lite follows the same brief, a similar shape is a reasonable expectation, but treat the specific numbers as global figures until Krafton India confirms its own.
What we still don’t know about BGMI Lite
- The exact launch date inside the end-of-2026 window
- Download size and minimum device requirements
- Maps, modes and which features carry across from BGMI
- Any India-specific launch rewards
Anyone publishing exact BGMI Lite specs or a fixed date today is guessing. We update this page only when Krafton India confirms details officially.
What Indian players should do right now
- Pre-register for BGMI Lite on its own Google Play listing, and follow official BGMI channels for the real announcement, not third-party dates.
- Ignore the August 25 date, it doesn’t apply to India.
- Skip every BGMI Lite APK doing the rounds, the game doesn’t exist to download yet.
- Free up a few gigabytes of storage so you’re ready when it lands.
- Link your BGMI account to a real login now so nothing is at risk later.
